The Ancient city of Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa was the second capital of ancient Sri Lanka. King Vijayabahu 1st shifted the capital from Anuradhapura to Polonnaruwa in 11th Cen. AD. The period of Polonnaruwa kingdom was not long as Anuradhapura kingdom. It was from 11th to 13th Cen. King Vijayabahu 1st, Great Parakkramabahu, and king Nishshankamalla were the great kings in Polonnaruwa.
When the King great Parakkramabahu period, the country was self-sufficient in paddy. And also remained quantity of paddy was exported to some Southeast Asian countries.
The largest irrigation tank, called Parakkrama Samudraya was made in this era. Kalinga Magha who was the invader came from India, destroyed the whole city of Sinhalese kings.
