Kandy & Temple of Tooth Relic

This temple is the most sacred temple in Sri Lanka, situated in Kandy, and also this is one of the holiest shrines in the whole Buddhist world.

Kandy was the last capital of Sinhalese kingdom. The temple is sheltering to the most sacred tooth relic of the Buddha.

This sacred relic was brought to Sri Lanka in 3rd Century AD by prince Sudantha and princess Hemamala, who was the daughter of Emperor Ashoka of India.

The festival of this temple, called Perahera, is held in July or August every year. Kandy has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
